night. we thought we were going to see some results an hour, maybe two hours afterwards but things came in slowly. the board of elections is being criticized for taking its time. we wanted to take you to the celebration. this all took place right around 2:00 a.m. this morning. vincent gray walking up in front of supporters to thank them for everything. we should give you some numbers here. 90% of the precincts reporting. vincent gray got about 59,285 votes. grey told his supporters it is now time for everyone to come together, all district resident to come together after this long campaign and work towards one city. back to you guys. >> thank you. and there were other primary contests in several

maryland counties. >> including the one in prince george's county where stacy cohan is this morning outside the county administration building. >> reporter: good morning. the county administration building as you well know is where the county executive houses the entire fifth floor and pretty soon we'll have i new occupant here that. will be rushern baker. he did claim victory beating his opponents last night. we have a breakdown of the numbers. rushern baker won with 44% of the vote. his next closest contenter was shaimpg michael jackson who got 33% and samuel dean got 1% -- his next closest contender was sheriff michael jackson would got 333%. michael jackson had the endorsement of the current county executive but that was not enough to propel him to the win. rush enbaker has long talked about reforming education, reducing crime and helping to improve the financial situation here in prince george's county. we have a lot of foreclosures here. however, the county has its aaa bond rating which baker would

like to keep intact. we'll hear more of what he has to say at an 11:00 a.m. press conference being held at his headquarters in largo. the race for governor in maryland now set. it will be a rematch of the 2006 battle between robert ehrlich and martin o'malley. governor o'malley easily beat two challengers in the democratic primary winning 86% of the vote. on the republican sued, former governor ehrlich captured the gop nomination with 57% of the vote over challenger brian murphy. in other news, a hostage standoff in maryland. it all started around 10:00 last night. a man with a gun walked into a home in the 8 # hundred block of richboro road in forestville, got into an argument with a woman and is now holding her inside the home. there were other people inside when this all went down but they were able to get out okay. police are considering this a domestic situation. also new, montgomery county police are searching for more suspects in a burglary attempt

and car theft. it happened around 2:00 this morning in the area of river road and goldsboro road in bethesda. police got a call about suspects lurking near a home. they tried to break in, police say, but fled in a stoling vehicle when officers arrived. so far, one person has been arrested. the nfl is investigating the alleged harrassment of a reporter during a new york jets practice and now redskins running back clinton portis is bringing even more attention to the story. we'll have the details coming up next. several other primaries held across the country yesterday. in delaware, a tea party candidate pulled off a huge upset. we'll have more on that straight ahead. as we head to break, keep in mind, we'll have much more on the primary race results in maryland and d.c. this also scrolling across your screen. can you find the latest numbers and updates on myfoxdc.com as well. here...

that is a line where the frontal system that will make its way through here i think thursday into friday, that could bring some showers to us thursday into friday. maybe even a couple of thunderstorms here or there. let's look at the tropics. this is tropical storm karl, the newest tropical storm. we have three tropical systems in play right now. tropical storm karl has maximum sustained wind of 65 miles per hour. it is impacting the yucatan peninsula where there are tropical storm warning in effect. this, we revisit hurricane igor. hurricane igor still a category four hurricane, a big hurricane. maximum sustained winds 145 miles per hour. so a very powerful storm system. then we have hurricane julia, also a category four hurricane. it is smaller, more compact than igor but another strong storm with maximum sustained winds of 15 miles per hour. all these storms bear watching, particularly karl right now and if you have any interest in bermuda, you are interested in

and was bleeding from head pretty bad but he was able to walk to an ambulance under his own power. a small ruckus broke out when fenty supporters tried to block cameras from filming the crash. in the race to replace vincent gray, at-large councilman kwame brown handily beat former councilmember vincent orange and dorothy douglas. now to the council at large seat, phil mendelsohn won the democratic primary despite concern that name confusion over another candidate might cost mendelsohn the seat t did not. he will face david schwartzman in november. in ward one, jim graham won the democrat you can primary with 57% of the vote there. >> incumbent harry thomas, jr.

business network in new york with more. let's start with the markets. >> good morning. we were down 18 points yesterday on the do you. that snapped a little bit of a winning streak we had, four days. we were able to stay flat on the asdaq and s&p. you mentioned real estate till numbers. we got pretty good retail numbers both from the commerce department overall in the month of august up 0. 4%. i know those numbers are pretty much meaningless but it was the highest month over month jump that wave seen going back to last spring. back to school shopping helped a little bit. although that has really spread out. it is more july, august, december. on an individual basis, best buy, can'tery's largest big box electronics retailer give us a good report. said good things about the remainder of the year selling a lot of cell phones and they are not discounting as much, steve. that is a big thing. kroger said the same thing. they said they aren't having to discount as much.

that is especially important for grocery stores around the country as their margins are tiny, paper thin. if they can just increase them a little bit, it make a big difference and goes right to their bottom line. a good day for the retail number but didn't help the stock market though. >> bad news for one pharmaceutical though. what happened? >> arena pharmaceuticals. this goes to show you how much these pharmaceutical companies and biopharma companies put all their eggs in one or would baskets. one of their three diet drugs is one that the fda may approve t would be the first diet pill to be approved by the fda in over a decade. it tyke hit yesterday. some scientists at the fda saying, even though it did promote weight loss, there were some bad side effects, heart problems, psychiatric problems. certainly certainly those would

on-time traffic. vincent gray has toppled mayor adrian fenty in the democratic primary in the race to d.c. mayor. with 90% of the precincts reporting, gray won 53 to 46%. this pretty much guarantees grey will be the next mayor of tease since there is no republican running in the election. matt ackland joins us with more. >> reporter: it still appears even after this big win last night, this morning, that the city is still divided. a gentleman came up to me and asked me who won last night. i said vincent gray and he hook his head and said that is not a good thing. but then five minutes later, another man came up to me and i said good morning. he said it is a good morning because we have a new mayor. a big celebration last night. it took some time for the election results to come in but then right around 2:00, the chairman, convincement gray,

walked up in front of all his supporters and thanked them for their help. he sawed it is time to get past the campaign, to become district residents again and work towards one goal as one city. but there is a lot of criticism when it comes to how the votes came in last night. remember, everything wrapped up at 8:00, all the voting did. we were hoping that we would get some kind of results maybe an hour, two hours afterwards but they came late. this morning, the board of elections is defending their actions. >> the vote total was light. the issue it is new voting equipment. this is the first time we've had the voting equipment in the district and it is taking some time to get us through the process. this is typical of what happens

when you introduce new voting equipment for the jurisdiction. >> come november when there is the general election, they will have the cichgs worked out and everything should work perfectly. the ap is reporting that the mayor has conceded the primary and he is expected to call chairman gray sometime this morning. we'll keep you updated other this story. back to you guys. in maryland, the race for governor is set. it will be a rematch of the 2006 battle between bob ehrlich and martin o'malley. o'malley won the democratic nomination with 86% of the vote beating challengers j. f. cusick and ralph jaffe. we are also watching another big race in maryland for bridge county executive. rushern baker is now the democratic candidate. we get more now from stacy cohan live outside the county administration building this morning.

u.s. senate. democratic incumbent barbara mikulski easily beat six challengers to win her party's nomination for a fifth term. mikulski will face republican eric wargos in november. he topped the field of 11 candidates with 39% of the vote. now, onto some of the congressional primaries in maryland. out on the eastern shore, andy harris won the republican primary in district one. he will take on democratic incumbent frank kratovil coming up in november. donna edwards won her party's primary for the democrats. she will face republican robert broaddus in the election. steny hoyer handily beat two challengers. he will face charles lawler in november. in district six, andrew duck won the democratic primary

>> across the lower 48, yes. we will show you that, if you look in the northern rockies, this time of year, that is the place to go. mountains of northern rockies. we are up near yellowstone park in northwest wyoming noorks montana, idaho that, part of the world. jackson hole, wyoming has in the forecast about an inch of snow in the next couple of days. and big sky, montana, several inches of snow. it is typical this time of year. >> yeah, usually late september is when you first start to see that. you may have missed this last week touring the 9:00 show. we had on the editor of the old farmer's almanac who i asked about the forecast, what their forecast is for our area speaking of snow for this winter. here it is according to the old farmer's almanac, their official forecast for the mid- atlantic, higher than average snowfall this upcoming winter. not as much snow as last year. it would be hard to get that much snow but heavier snow than
